NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Dr. Rajiv Kumar and Chief Executive Officer Amitabh Kant released the State Energy and Climate Index, SECI- Round One in New Delhi on 11th April 2022.
Uttarakhand ranked 5th along with Gujarat, Kerala, Punjab, and Harayana securing the top 4 positions in the Index among the larger states category. Goa, Tripura, and Manipur secured the top three positions among the smaller states category.
Chandigarh, Delhi, Daman, and Diu/Dadra & Nagar Haveli secured the top three positions respectively in the UT’s category.
NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Dr. Rajiv Kumar stressed the need to convert efforts towards achieving the “Panchamrit” targets announced by PM Narendra Modi at COP-26, Glasgow.
NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said that achieving the ambitious climate targets would require a conducive policy environment to encourage investment. He also remarked that the State Energy and Climate Index-Round One will help to initiate a dialogue with the states on the energy sector so that much-required policy improvements can be made.
What is State Energy and Climate Index (SECI)?
SECI is the first index launched by NITI Aayog that aims to track the efforts made by states and UTs in the climate and energy sector.
The State Energy and Climate Index (SECI) ranks states and UTs on six parameters:
• Discoms’ (Power distribution companies) Performance,
• Access Affordability And Reliability of Energy,
• Clean Energy Initiatives,
• Energy Efficiency,
• Environmental Sustainability,
• New Initiatives.
These parameters include a total of 27 indicators.
